Sapphire Community Projects Inc. have a new initiative! Introducing, Give, Grow, Give!
Give Grow Give is a new and exciting program launching by the end of 2025 through Sapphire Community Projects.
Give, Grow, Give has 3 main aims:
To encourage our community to grow their own food
To assist our community in providing knowledge and information to grow their own food
For the process to be circular in nature,so in the process of assisting our community to grow its own food , Sapphire Community Projects benefits from locally grown and produced vegetables.
Locally, we understand the challenges of accessing affordable fresh produce—especially with the distances it often travels to reach the Bega Valley. Fortunately, our community continues to show incredible generosity, with many individuals donating homegrown fruit and vegetables to Sapphire Community Pantry and Ricky’s Place.
The Give Grow Give initiative seeks to empower even more community members to grow fresh food at home. Here's how it works: by the end of May, we’ll be offering free punnets of lettuces for people to take home and cultivate. Once the plants are thriving, we simply ask that a portion of them be returned to us—whether it’s a few from a tray of twenty—to be used at Ricky’s or offered at the Pantry.
It’s a cycle of generosity and sustainability: We Give, You Grow, You Give—ensuring that fresh, local produce continues to nourish our whole community.
We educate our community on how to prepare a garden bed, then they collect seedlings from the Sapphire Community Pantry, Grow the seedlings, then return a portion of the grown produce back to the Pantry & keep some for yourself!
To start things off, we are offering Cos Lettuce. Keep an eye on our Facebook page to find out when we will be handing out seedlings next!
